Our Plan

The plan is reasonably simple.

We take delivery in October, assemble our swarthy crew, make a shakedown sail around the Cape of Good Hope (and back), then prepare for the 1st leg of our BIG Adventure!

The main premise of a cruising life is to go where you want to when you want to!!  So -it will be difficult to predict exactly where we are going to be at any given time.  Our life will be dictated by enjoying what we see, who we spend time with and the journey.  The destination is somewhat irrelevant.

So – the rough plan below provides an indication of where we are headed over the next several years.  If you want to join us on our journey, check this out from time to time and get in contact with us – to see when berths on Rodeless will be available.

When men make plans,
God laughs.

Where We Are Going

  • Sail-away: Cape Town to Brazil October 2022

We will start the 1st leg of our passage across the Atlantic with a brief stop in St. Helena, then make landfall in Brazil where we will spend time with Brazilian friends and re-provision.

Our first taste of the cruising life will be a visit to Fernando de Naronho, a small island off the Brazilian coast, where the diving is fantastic.

  • Caribbean Winter/Spring 2023

We will make our way up through the Caribbean over the winter and spring, stopping along the way to visit friends in Trinidad, Balance Rally in St. Martin. Our kids will join us for Christmas in Puerto Rico, then we hope the friends will visit as we make our way up to the Bahamas and then Bermuda.

  • Mediterranean Sea Summer/Fall 2023

We will cross the Atlantic before hurricane season (I hope) in May from Bermuda to the Azorean Islands as our 1st port-of-call. After stocking up , we will make the jump over to the Eastern Med hoping to get as far Turkey or possibly Israel. We will work our way back making stops in Greece and Croatia, exploring the Agean, Ionian and Adriatic coastlines. Then onward to Italy, France and Spain before it gets too cold.

  • Norway Summer 2024

Exiting, the Med as soon as it warms up a bit, we will sail to Southern England to enjoy some real sailing weather with my British friends. We will then sail north and across the English Channel to Norway. Norway is a spectacular cruising ground and we look forward to visits from all of our Norwegian friends as we explore the southern coast. It will be a short season though.

  • Back Across the Pond Fall 2024

We may take the northern route back across the Atlantic, passing through Caledonian Canal, then down the coast to wait for a good crossing over to Newport, RI. This may be a cold-wet and windy passage, so I will be looking for hardy crew. Meg may have to go visit the kids!!

  • South to Panama Winter 2025

We will then start moving south again after hurricane season stopping along the way at islands that we still want explore. The final destination for this journey will be Panama. After exploring the San Blas islands, we will sail through the Panama Canal and start preparing for our Pacific crossing.

  • The Pacific Summer 2025...

This is where things start getting a bit fuzzy, Stops along the way in the Galapagos and Marquesas Islands will break this long crossing up and mitigate the chance of mutiny by the crew. We will then explore the Tuamotus and Fijian Islands before heading south to New Zealand. Then back north to Australia. This part of our journey could take over a year and we are not so certain we want to predict anything else beyond this.
